The following is a report for the Medical outreach in Nigeria where we passed out glasses and gave care to the sick and needy. With me were 600 pieces of reading glasses and a few other items that were bought in the US. The reading glasses were distributed over a period of two days. Many people who had given up hope of reading got a new lease of life. Some were craftsmen who can no longer do their work because their sight was failing, others were office workers who were facing unforeseen futures but got some relief. Nigeria is facing an unprecedented economic meltdown in which people are physically dropping dead from the hardship due to lack of basic food and care, so to buy reading glasses is a luxury many cannot afford. Medications and the rest of things we used were procured in Nigeria. My team on the ground in Nigeria included trusted doctors, nurses, other healthcare workers, clergy and security people that were also used as volunteers. We were lodged together for the duration of the outreach. The news of our arrival spread quickly. We arrived Sunday afternoon (people are afraid to travel in the evenings for fear of kidnapping), to start work on Monday, March 25th. That evening, the community leaders paid us a visit and pleaded that we should stay indoors on Monday because a faction of local terrorists had issued a warning that no one should carry out any activity that Monday. Few days prior, gangsters had attacked and gunned down two policemen at a closeby checkpoint. We used Monday to arrange our inventory, and also staged a mock patient registration section, vital signs, blood pressure and blood sugar cubicles, doctors consultation, pharmacy and dispensary. That made the patient flow smoother for us at the venue. We woke up each morning and started with Worship and Prayer, and then breakfast. Thereafter, everyone was transported to the venue by 8am. The patients were ready and waiting for us. On each of the four days we saw more people as the news spread. The last day was almost out of control because patients were fighting to get seen by medical professionals. We worked till dawn and had to close. We recorded 575 patients, but we did treat some desperate patients that somehow met us before our usual start time of 8am before we could get to the venue. Some patients also lined up at our hotel premises in tears. This trip was the first time that we had all the workers under one roof. It was the best because no one was late, we had a good synergy, and attended to more people than in the past. These people know how to cry out to God. They called down heaven to bless all those that God used to help their desperate situations and make this (for some) once-in-a-lifetime opportunity happen. So, HOGMI is grateful to all the men and women in America that have let God use them to give a cup of water and care to His children. No good thing will He withhold from each of you that have given of your time, talent and treasure (or money). Yours in His Vineyard, Chidi Nwaohia.

PAST MISSION TRIPS

This is a video from our December 2017 - January 2018 Mission. Among the many things that inspires us is, the testimonies of those who have benefited from the care. The community cannot stop thanking God for Heart of Gold as they describe how their lives have been impacted by Medical Mission. No patient pays a penny and all the volunteers are fed.  Please continue to support and pray.

2 July 2020:  In the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, HOGMI gave out money for food to 60 elderly, poor, sick, and widowed families. We repeated that this July 2021. The very sick that could not come were visited in their home where they were blessed with financial assistance. They praised, worshipped, and were blessed with the Word of God. SEE VIDEO AND PICTURES.

In this video, Chidi is teaching via an interpreter about baby care, hygiene, and epilepsy in Bangui 2021.

During Ezinnachi Nigeria Palliative Care 2022, 100% of every dollar donated went directly to the less privileged. We changed the money into local currency and shared it out to our recipients for food.

They started by listening to my voice taped message from Mark 4:13-20. Then they received the money; the frail elderly, widows, widowers, orphans, and epileptics.  We picked those that had no one helping them. In the video, they are intensely worshiping God, grateful and praying for the angels that remembered them.

Two tried and trusted brethren are on the ground; they traveled to the villages to find those that meet our criteria for assistance. The few recipients who were too frail to make it to the venue were visited in their villages where they got their own money. Its heartwarming to see the intensity on their faces as they count the miracle in their hands.

Young Single mothers, who are also taking care of elderly parents, are among the recipients

Chinedu's wife with two of their three kids, all below six years old. Her husband Chinedu was on his way home to bury his mother when he was kidnapped two years ago, without a trace. She still has no one to help. So HOGMI is putting her oldest child through kindergarten, and also helped her start a vegetable trade that she can do in front of her home.

During Congo Medical Mission 2022, The woman here brought the child to us  weak and limp from intractable vomiting and diarrhea. With medication and health education, the child recovered, and the mother learned how to better care for her girl.

Health education is the bedrock of our Mission. Some of the ailments can be managed by basic hygiene. The Mayor and council came the first day to welcome us and appreciate the Mission.
